Subcontractor Insurance Requirements
If you're a subcontractor in Texas, you already know the drill — you can't start work until the GC has your insurance paperwork. And every GC seems to want something slightly different. We work with subs every day and know exactly what's required, what's negotiable, and how to get you compliant fast so you can get on the job.
What Do GCs Typically Require?
Most general contractors require subcontractors to carry general liability with $1M/$2M limits at minimum, workers' compensation (even in Texas where it's not always legally required), and an additional insured endorsement naming the GC on your policy. Some also require commercial auto, umbrella coverage, or waiver of subrogation endorsements. The requirements vary by GC and by project — we'll help you sort through what you actually need.
What If I'm a One-Person Operation?
This is where things get tricky for a lot of subs. Even sole proprietors are often required to carry GL and workers' comp to work as a sub. Some GCs will accept a workers' comp exemption affidavit, but many won't — especially on larger commercial jobs. We can help you understand your options and find the most cost-effective way to meet the requirements.

How Fast Can I Get Set Up?
We can typically get subcontractors quoted within one business day and bound shortly after. COIs with additional insured endorsements are issued as soon as the policy is active. If you've got a job starting next week, call us now and we'll make it happen.
We Handle the Certificate Headaches
We deal with COI requests daily. Once your policy is in place, we can issue certificates with specific additional insured endorsements, waiver of subrogation, and any other requirements your GC needs. And when you get a new job with different requirements, just send us the details and we'll get a new cert out — usually the same day.
